Following the resounding success of his 2022 exhibition, A Place Called Home, Trevor Stuurman embarks on a profound exploration of South African domestic life, its nostalgia, and its infinite meanings. In Home Away From Home, Stuurman facilitates an intimate encounter with his personal art collection, consisting of archival works installed in a domestic setting within the walls of The Trumpet on Keyes.
Stuurman takes on the role of a storyteller, guiding visitors on a journey through his personal artistic odyssey over the years. Central to this immersive experience is his meticulously curated collection of artworks, which transforms the gallery into a captivating representation of home life, where art is not merely admired but also lived and experienced.
The exhibition showcases a diverse ensemble of artists, including Bambolwami Sibiya, Blessing Rooi, Bonolo Kavula, Esther Mahlangu, Katlego Tlabela, Lulama Wolf, Minenkulu Ngoyi, Mmangaliso Nzuza, Nelson Makamo, Nthabi Kekana, Sam Legodi, Simphiwe Ndzube, Sindiso Nyoni, Siphesihle Ntsungwana, alongside Trevor Stuurman’s own captivating photographic works. Together, they breathe life into the theme of ‘home’ through various creative lenses.
“This is a presentation of home, but in a different light. It’s quite personal for me to let people into my own space in this way, but as we bring The Manor to life, I want to create a physical manifestation of the stories and people in The Manor’s universe and the way it could one day look,” Stuurman says.
In addition to the exhibition, The Manor is excited to unveil an engaging program of events, including the highly anticipated return of the legendary ‘Sunday Best’ party.
