SIBADALA SIBANCANE

First Thursdays at Keyes Art Mile sponsored by American Express

On Thursday 6 June, we unveiled our latest project at Keyes Art Mile in Johannesburg — Sibadala Sibancane — an exhibition offering a nuanced reflection on the societal pressures that prompt young individuals to assume adult roles prematurely while showcasing the resilience of navigating these complexities.

Together with Strauss & Co, the exhibition featured photographic works by Lebogang Tlhako and Mikhailia Petersen, who were both featured in The Manor’s special edition photography journal, Reflecting B(l)ack.

The opening night was a resounding success as people arrived at Keyes Art Mile, dressed to the nines, to experience The Manor’s latest project, which explores the paradoxical nature of children in South Africa, often engaging in role-playing games and mimicking adulthood through activities like playing house and dress-up, coinciding with South Africa’s Youth Month and the significance of June 16th.

The exhibition runs until 30 June 2024.
