The Manor is proud to present IQHUGWANE — a pop-up experience in collaboration with South African based menswear and streetwear brand, Refuse Clothing. ‘IQHUGWANE S/S 23/24’ is a tour de force of Refuse Clothing’s design language: blending African Nguni aesthetics with a modern feel. Inspired by traditional Zulu huts, symbolizing warmth and stability, this collection reimagines and reintroduces ancestral homes to the world inspired by the architectural journey of building a hut. This new collection intertwines tribalism and streetwear, featuring earthy colours, all-over prints and boxy silhouettes.
The Manor is a community of creatives who value expression, individuality, and storytelling. Our multidisciplinary approach allows us to explore various art forms and mediums, from fashion and design to photography and film. Recently, The Manor was named as one of the top 20 “Best Cultural Spots” on National Geographic’s Best Of The World 2024, recognising our ethos of collaboration and celebrating
African ingenuity.
This collaboration with Refuse Clothing highlights our commitment to combining traditional African aesthetics with a contemporary vision to celebrate cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern design. Just as IQHUGWANE, a plural term for a handcrafted hut in Zulu, brings forth a feeling of being centred — “a home” in every sense — this collaboration seeks to invite visitors to our home, a space of community, pride, and cultural heritage, creating a dialogue between the past and present to inspire a renewed sense of identity and belonging.
Join us for the opening of IQHUGWANE on Thursday 4 July 2024 (First Thursday) at The Annex, Keyes Art Mile, Rosebank. The pop-up runs until Sunday 7 July 2024 and will showcase Refuse Clothing’s latest collection, which will also be available for purchase over the 3 days.
We can’t wait to see you there!
