On Thursday, 4 July 2024, The Manor in collaboration with Refuse launched a First Thursday pop-up experience at Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, showcasing Refuse’s latest collection, IQHUGWANE S/S 23/24. The collection blends African Nguni aesthetics with a modern feel, inspired by traditional Zulu huts, symbolising warmth and stability, reimagining and reintroducing ancestral homes to the world inspired by the architectural journey of building a hut. With all-over prints and boxy silhouettes, the collection is a coup de maître of street culture, while still paying homage to Nguni heritage.
Despite the cold weather, a vibrant crowd supported and celebrated this unique fusion of culture and fashion. The atmosphere was electric with Lelowhatsgood and Uncle Party Time on decks throughout the evening to keep the spirits high. The event not only highlighted the creative synergy between The Manor and Refuse but also demonstrated the community’s enthusiasm for cultural expression through a modern lens.
