Grade Africa x Lauryn Hill: A Capsule of LegacY

Energy ran high in Johannesburg this past weekend as Grade Africa, founded by cultural entrepreneur Zaid Osman, hosted an exclusive pop-up experience with the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill ahead of her DStv Delicious Festival performance.

The collaboration unveiled a T-shirt capsule, blending the iconic singer’s legacy with Grade’s streetwear ethos. The Rosebank pop-up saw fans turn out in numbers to secure a collectable piece and the rare chance to meet one of the most influential artists of our time. The electric atmosphere was amplified with performances by DJ Doowap and Rarri.

Hill, whose groundbreaking career spans from her time with the Fugees to her five-time Grammy Award-winning solo album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, continues to inspire new generations. From the previous pop-up that took place during the Brazil leg of the tour to this one, each space reflected her influence, where music and fashion converged.

For Grade Africa, a label that celebrates youth culture and bridging the continent with global streetwear movements, the collaboration was a natural fit. Together with Lauryn Hill, they turned the capsule into a moment of cultural storytelling. For those who attended, the day transcended merch. It was about legacy, creativity, and witnessing how African streetwear continues to hold space in global conversations.
