The 2025 edition of the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival will be remembered as the year Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean reunited in Johannesburg, reminding audiences why the Fugees’ sound defined an era and continues to shape global music.
Taking to the stage with her sons Zion and YG Marley, Hill’s presence transcended generations. YG Marley brought his signature style that fuses reggae and hip hop, an echo of the timeless spirit of the Marley dynasty. Zion, immortalised in Hill’s ballad ‘To Zion,’ stood as a symbol of the family’s living legacy.
Fashion was as much a part of the performance as music. Hill commanded attention in a red Mafeteng print couture suit by Thebe Magugu, while Wyclef Jean matched her in Magugu’s Sisterhood V-Neck knit — a nod to South African design that reflects the festival’s celebration of culture. The evening’s back-up dancers and singers were also fitted out by luxury African knitwear and fashion brand MAXHOSA AFRICA.
For the crowd, it was a bridge between the past and the future. Hill, the five-time Grammy Award winner whose debut solo album remains one of the best-selling of all time, reminded the audience of her unmatched artistry. Wyclef Jean, ever the genre-defying visionary, reignited the chemistry that once made the Fugees a global phenomenon.
